Respect for Life Committee

Instituted in 2001, by the USCCB, the committee's four main functions are to advocate a respect for all life from conception to natural death.

How?
Through Prayer
Through Education
Through Advocacy
Through Pastoral Service

We celebrate life with a Pro-life rosary on the 22nd of each month before the weekday Mass (no rosary on weekends) and with a special celebration and Mass on the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade (January 22).  A Respect for Life conference is held yearly in September at Powell Butte Retreat Center.  Advocacy done primarily with educational videos, parish inserts, pre-election information, and running the Pro-Life booth at the Deschutes County Fair.  Bimonthly meetings are held on the first Monday of the month.  Our annual fundraiser is the "baby-bottle" drive each year in May.

Contact person:  Richard Thorne, 541-548-9970

Mission Statement:  In accordance with the U.S. Bishops Plan, we are to assist all members of our Parish with Respect for Life issues in the following ways:

Public information and education on life issues occurring at the beginning, during or at the end of life.

Pastoral care:

  • prenatal counseling and referrals;
  • post abortion healing and resources;
  • care for the chronically ill, disabled or dying;
  • visiting the sick inconjunction with the parish health ministries.

Public policy forums - how to change hearts, minds and ultimately the laws that foster the culture of death.

Prayer and worship devoted to stopping the public acceptance of abortion/PAS/embryonic research/cloning, etc.
